Mr. Apfel is a managing director and a member of the Boston Trust Board of Directors. He has been the firm’s chief investment officer since 2006 and serves on the Investment, Portfolio Strategy, and Corporate Governance Committees. He is a portfolio manager for the Balanced, Core Equity, Value Equity, and International Equity strategies, and manages the Walden Asset Management Fund (WSBFX), the Walden Equity Fund (WSEFX), and the Walden International Equity Fund (WIEFX). He manages portfolios for institutional and individual clients.
Mr. Apfel also oversees the activities of Boston Trust’s socially responsive investing practice, Walden Asset Management, including the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) research into the investment process, as well as Walden’s shareholder engagement initiatives. He co-chairs the ESG Research & Engagement Committee.
Prior to joining the firm in 1989, Mr. Apfel was an investment executive at Kidder, Peabody & Co. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, and is a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society and the CFA Institute. He earned a BA from Binghamton University, MA from Georgetown University, and PhD from Brown University, and was a Fulbright Scholar.
