Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy
Asset Allocation
Equity Investing
Fixed Income Investing
Boston Trust's disciplined investment approach seeks to achieve superior investment returns with lower-than-average exposure to risk. We strive to accomplish this objective by adding value in each of the three key elements of investment management - asset allocation, stock and bond segment composition, and individual security selection.

A team of senior investment professionals establishes guidelines used by portfolio managers in determining appropriate asset allocation and equity and fixed income segment composition for client accounts. Our securities research group, which includes both portfolio managers and securities analysts, regularly evaluates all securities available for inclusion in client portfolios for financial quality and investment prospects.

We believe that three factors add the most value for our clients:

1.
Tactical asset allocation to manage risk across a variety of economic outcomes
For portfolios constructed using both stocks and bonds, we have decades of experience and a well-defined methodology for setting this blend appropriately. In every case, emphasis is placed on understanding the risks of a particular strategy as much as the potential rewards.

2. A focus on high-quality companies
In our equity products, we strive to identify and invest in higher quality companies at reasonable prices. We believe this emphasis on high quality supports our goal of generating a better-than-average return over a market cycle, while assuming lower risk.

2. An Experienced Investment Team
Within the context of client investment objectives, our professionals work together to ensure that our investment strategies are consistently applied. Whether in weekly investment meetings or daily conversation, our team brings significant historical perspective and a spirit of collaboration to this process.
